Dancing returns to Villari’s

April 20, 2013

Come dance with MT

posted by Notre Vir

Want to “just go dancing” while avoiding the club scene, ear-splitting volume, studio memberships and weeks of lessons? Well “hey there cutes put on your Basie boots and come dance” – every Thursday evening at Villari’s in Palmyra, NJ.

Starting May 2nd, local entertainer, M.T.Glass will provide traditional and modern music from 7 to 10pm, while chef Paul Villari provides unlimited snacks, soft drinks, and a ballroom newly renovated by the Food Network – all for just $10 per person. A full bar, dinner and light menu is available; parking is free and reservations are not required. Representatives from local dance studios will stop by from time to time to offer tips and demonstrations.

“This is for everyone,” said Glass. “We’re creating an atmosphere for couples and singles; for experienced dancers and for those that just sway.”

Established in 1948, the restaurant has hosted everything from big bands, to disco, to karaoke. “Sometimes people just want to dance without having to buy dinner or waiting to be invited to a wedding.” said Villari. “Our facility allows this kind of service – we can have a rock band in the bistro and dancing to Sinatra in the ballroom.”

MT CD red-D

February 27, 2012

Founder’s Farwell, M T’s newest CD is available now. The disc highlights three aspects of M T’s performance — the supper club/cocktail piano stylings, the vocals, and the big band sound. “I wanted a CD that captured, in miniature, a typical evening in Villari’s Founder’s Room,” said M T. “I think the selections and mix of styles accomplish that goal.”

A Saturday night fixture in the formal Founder’s Room for the past 9 years, M T continues as the bistro’s house musician, but his location and schedule vary. Villari’s Founder’s Room and Banquet facilities were recently renovated by the Food Network; the process was documented and aired as the pilot of for the series, Restaurant Impossible.

The publicity led to an increase in private parties held at the venue, and created a need for more space and flexibility. In June, third generation owner, Paul Villari III, made the decision to make the Founder’s room part of the banquet facilites.

Since then, M T has been periodically performing and DJ-ing in the informal SanPaulo room, on Saturdays, or hosting “M T’s Rockin’ Piano Bar” in the pub on Fridays. Of course, holidays, private parties, and special occasions continue to bring him back to the Founder’s Room. “We bring in MT whenever we can,” said Villari. “The customers, staff and I love it when he’s here. He’s family.”

Positioned as a demo CD, Founder’s Farwell is available now.
